Ladle Refurbishment FAQ's
What kind of refurbishment work does Modern Equipment do?
From top to bottom refurbishment if that’s what you need, or simple gearbox rebuilds if you are only replacing wear components. You tell us what you’d like done, we’ll take it from there.
How do I request a quotation or estimate from Modern Equipment?
Send us a description of the ladle (photos help if you can manage) to ladles@moderneq.com or call us at 262-284-9431. Tell us what you’d like us to accomplish, how old the ladle equipment is, and if possible, give us the serial number located on the gearing. Then, tell us what is not working properly. If we think we can help, we’ll tell you. If we think you should buy a new one, we’ll tell you that too.
Does Modern Equipment need to see the product in order to estimate the work?
When you decide that refurbishment is your best option, you’ll need us to take a physical look at the product. We’ll arrange with you to have it sent to our facility in Port Washington, Wisconsin. We’ll survey the unit and the work to be done, then provide you with an estimate for parts and labor that will be required to put your ladle back into tip-top condition. If we find more to be done than you’ve requested, we’ll let you know what we recommend.
Do I need to degrease the gear & bearing housing before I send it to Modern Equipment?
That’s up to you. It’ll cost you a bit less, but may be more of a hassle for you. We don’t mind getting dirty to get the job done.
How long does it take?
3-4 weeks including the shipping time, our inspection and estimating time, and then our refurbishment time, if we have all of the information and decisions that you need to make. You control most of the schedule by providing us information and decisions based upon what we find.
Does Modern Equipment have parts available in stock if the ladle needs new parts?
We have a full line of standard gears, bearings, bushings, shaft assemblies and other parts for our ladles in stock and ready for you.
Any Rules of Thumb I should consider when making my decision?
In general, if a refurbishment job costs 60% of a new ladle, we recommend refurbishment of your existing unit. You will expect nearly another near full life out of a refurbished unit and will save the additional cost of a new unit.
